Ed
Hartin, MS. EFO, MIFireE, CFO is a Battalion Chief with Gresham Fire &
Emergency Services in Gresham, Oregon and owner of CFBT-US, LLC, a
training company specializing in compartment fire behavior training. Ed
has 35 years of fire service operational and training experience serving
with municipal fire departments, a state training agency, and the
National Fire Academy. Ed has an Associate Degree in Fire Protection and
Safety Technology, Bachelors Degree in Fire Service Administration,
Masters Degree in Education, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate at
Portland State University’s Graduate School of Education. Ed’s research
involves study of factors that influence firefighters’ experiential
learning about fire behavior.
Ed
has traveled throughout the world studying firefighting best practices
and has delivered training programs throughout the United States, as
well as in Australia, Malaysia, Chile, Germany, Croatia, and Sweden Ed
is one of the co-authors of 3D Firefighting: Training, Techniques,
and Tactics published in 2005 by Fire Protection Publications. He
also contributed chapters on fire behavior for the International Fire
Service Training Association (IFSTA) Essentials of Firefighting (5th
ed.) and Fireground Support Operations (2nd ed.). Ed has
authored numerous articles for the web and print media including
Firehouse.com, Crisis Response, and Fire-Rescue magazine. Contact Ed at
